The most important story i found today was the suicide bombings. 80 people were killed in 3 seperate locations in Iraq. 120 others where injured in the attacks. The bombs where set off as a man held hands with children and women while recieving food aid. Will it ever end? What can we do about it? these are a few quistions that we need to start talking about. The next story is about the research of cancer. Over the years americans have been promised a cure, but of course none has come yet. Obama is giving americans some hope by giving more money to cancer research company and promising that there will be a cure in our lifetime. The next story has to do with the suicide bombings. America is starting to wonder how hard Pakistan to trying to stop taliban. What is getting us so fired up about this is that Pakistan made a truce with the taliban to let them into a little country called Buner. The final story i am going to talk about is the Microsoft stock going down for the first time in 23 years. This shows how bad our economy really is. The only business that is really either staying at the same level as before or even going up a little is computer businesses. If Microsoft is going down that might be changing soon

The top stories that i picked today are all very different, but important in there own way. The first story i found has to do with greenhouse gases found in our envirement. Carbon dioxide and 5 other heat trapping gases have been found to threaten public health and welfare. The E.P.A. has found very compelling evidence that proves the findings are accurate. In the fast we had an idea of what was causing the rise in heat, but we have finally found substantle evidence to help us move forward and hopefully do something about this problem. The next story i found had to do with a few local representives going at each other and maybe saying things they shouldnt be saying. Rep. Michele Backman and Dem. rep. Ellison have gotten into a few heating arguments over comments said by Backman. On a radio show Backman brought up an incedent that happened in 2006 after Ellison’s victory celebration. Ellison who is muslim flew six of his freinds in to celebrate, but they didnt make it here. There were talking off the plane for a perticular reason that was not shared. Backman called them the “flying imams” which didnt sit well will the dem. party. This scares me to think that this kind of person is in power. If his closest freinds cant even get here there is something going on we dont know about.
Another health concern has come to our attention as salmonella has been discovered in pistachios. Many different companies have sent back there product including staples that carries the brand Crunch Time. This doesnt affect me personally because i am not a pistachio fan, but the number of cases that have come up in general is a concern. You never know if what you are eating is the next product to be recalled. Finally the governemnt is litening the load for our soldiers. We were going to send over 30 pound body armour for out soldiers, but Obama has decided to not do that. So 3 million dollars worth of equipment is sitting in a warehouse. What this means to me is that we are already starting the exit plan and series of things are going to be happening in the near future so that we can be out of Iraq when Obama wants us to be.

Today was slow around Minnesota so even my stories from the Star Tribune are about North Dakota and Iowa. The first story i found is probably one of the biggest of the day. Iowa just passed a law that allows gays to get married in the state of Iowa. They are now the third state to pass this law and the first in the midwest. This to me is the first sign of the demacratic office we have now. The world is changing to be more liberal and its scary. When will someone say this is to far? Will gay marriage become legal in every state while Obama is in office? These are some of the quistions we need to start thinking about. The next story i found is sad and shows there is no end in site for these horrible times we are facing. in March almost 700,000 more jobs where lost as the unemployment rate soared to %8.5. This is becoming a big issue for me because i have been trying to find a job for awhile now after being laid off and cannot. Even the fast food joints arent hiring. Also my parents might lost there jobs and if this happens our lives will change drastically. My next story is one that is actually breaking news this morning. 6 people have been shot and at least 40 people are being held hostage as a man entered the back door of an immigration service in Binghampton, NY. this is very tragic and hopefully they can end this situation without anyone being killed. Fargo, ND is reporting that there might be another threat coming soon. There are reports that the river will have a second dangerous crest, and there is a %75 chance the river reaches 41 feet this month. This is will a disaster to the city of ND after just facing the floods a few weeks back. My final story is somewhat a positive one. Finally health insurance will be cheaper and easier for everyone to have. It still has a few stages to get through, but it was passed by the senate and is on its way. This is great news for everyone that isnt covered and everyone that is struggling in these times of hardship

This weeks stories have a political theme to them. The first story is about the Franken and Coleman race. Franken has been lobbying for a temporary seat on the senate, but today it has been denied. They will continue going over the ballots and try to reach a decision in the near future. Another big story today is Obama is going to sign a a bill which will reverse the stem cell restrictions that Bush made while president. This will allow more funding and they can do whatever they want. Going off of the stem cell controversy the next story is whether California should undue the gay marriage ban. Both the last two stories are signs that the country is going in the wrong direction and Obama is going to be doing alot of things that i agree with.

In my blog i have 5 pretty random and different news stories to cover so i might be jumping around a bit. Two of my stories have to do with money and the economy is trying a trillion dollar key for locked lenders. What this means is they are trying to fix the bank to the actual banks. Most banks do not have the money the make on loans because they have been sending it to other investors as securities. Pretty much what we are trying to do is pay the lenders what they diserve and obama is planning on doing that.Another story that goes along with the economy In California the $143 billion dollar budget closes a $41 billion dollar deficit through 2010 with tax increases, deep cuts in services and extensive barrowing. What this means is everyone is going to have to pay more.
I made the Pontiac GTO/Firebird article a top story because i love cars, and i agree that they have ruined that model. After the reading the article i dont plan on seeing the old cars coming back anytime soon. GM has demoted Pontiac and will no longer be a seperate division of cars. This is of course is apart of the bailout plan for GM.
I also picked another story that relates so much to what we have talked about in class. The story in the star tribune about 50 people on a plane hitting turbulance brought us right back to the crash in Buffalo NY. It seems like the media wants us to be scared to fly. There were a few serious injuries, but most where minor when the flight to Tokyo hit a patch a unexpected turbulance.

In today’s issues the biggest one of course is the death of 50 people in the plane crash. This is a very tragic story that you never want to wake up to hearing. It happened outside of a suburban buffalo, NY house late last night. The accident is said to be caused because of the cold temperatures at the height they were at which caused icing of the wings. This along with the Hudson river crash in my opinion will hurt the flying industry even more because of the mindset society has now about flying.Along with this story there was an article in the Star today about a women from Winona who died in the plane crash. I just thought it was interesting that we just talked about location of storys in class. Of course we covered the plane crash here in Minnesota, but we also reported on this women from Winona in which no one else did.
Also Judd Gregg decided to withdraw his name from consideration for the commerce secretary position, because had some “irresolvable conflicts” with Obama. This is going to make it a little harder for Obama to create this bipartison administration that he wanted, because just like Judd Gregg not many Republicans are in agreement with Obama on his stimulas plan
Also The banks are a HUGE mess right now and it doesnt look like it is going to get better unless we step in and help. Many of these bad bets that the banks have are draggin down the economy and we should be focusing on this problem first if we want things to change.
